How does ram memory 'bleep' to you.Only the hd & power lcds should be visable on the tower.Microsoft has/had a pc memory tester. However it seems to be no longer available, google,or yahoo probably have it or,downloads.com It tests ram memory & its controllers,a great utility run in MS-DOS. I said 'bleep' at me, 'cos that's exactly what it was doing. Turns out I'd disturbed the pair of 512Mb sticks that were originally installed when I was 'spring-cleaning', upon first receiving it. I've installed two more 512s in slots 3 & 4, thereby giving the 2Gb of RAM that it now has. Reseating the original 512s has cured the bleeping. You have to realise that it's the newer Compaq Presarios which signal error codes with the LED's; the older models (and this is not far off 10 yrs old now) used to to signal those same issues with various differently-coded sets of beeps. This information is all clearly presented on HP's support site, on this page:- And when this is all done, you then download a Microsoft patch that prevents the issue from recurring again. You can only be certain of THREE things in life; birth, death.and taxes. I fear Andrew E has completely missed the point of your question. I doubt that he will return to see your reply. Microsoft does appear to have removed its RAM tester. Some would say that memtest86+ is better, my personal experience is that I have found memory faults with both that the other did not find. So my advice would be to run both if you fear that you might have a RAM problem. Download Microsoft's one from any place you can find it. It will be called mtinst.exe (640KB) or mtinst.zip (295KB) Tricky.
